Based on this definition, the PMO can define success and present a believable success rate for the prior year.
The assessment should also evaluate the key factors that led to success and failure. These key factors become the basis for the improvement of the PMO in the next year. The PMO then improves its services and continues operations for another year or two. The longer period is best if many projects take over a year to complete.
At the end of this time, the PMO performs a second assessment. This will show if the PMO has improved the project management life cycle success rate and other beneficial factors during the year. If there is no improvement, the PMO must re-evaluate its strategy and services. If there is improvement, the PMO can prepare to present its findings. Many factors must be considered.
