The Costs of Independence
Some costs of independence are minor, and should be taken on by any PMO. For example, all PMOs should enhance independence by using these two inexpensive approaches:
Standards. Acquire project management standards documents and other relevant standards, and adhere to standards when creating the methodology and processes, in providing all PMO services, and in the content of all training the PMO provides.
Professionalism. Support the professionalism of the project manager, assessor, reviewer, and auditor by encouraging them to join professional associations, receive certification, and adhere to the ethical standards and codes of conduct that come with association membership and certification. The PMO should consider funding the costs of certification training, certification, and membership for professionals on its staff and throughout the organization.
