Project Management Software Benefits

The PMO should evaluate the benefits of independent review against these costs, and choose the degree of independence in the planning process. In this way, the costs are then included in the project budget. They can also be mitigated to some degree. For example, it may be appropriate to add one independent reviewer to End-of-Phase Reviews led by the project team, and to keep him updated before the review begins. This would minimize schedule delays of the Project Management Life Cycle. Or it may be best to audit only a small portion of the project, the component considered to be at highest risk of cost overrun or failure.

When independence is optional, the costs and benefits should be weighed, and the most cost-effective solution chosen and built into the plan. But, sometimes, independence is required.
