Independence in Online Project Management and in Auditing
As indicated in some of the examples above, the standards for independence are stricter in the audit profession than in the project management profession. The goal of project management is to ensure project success, which is an objective of management. The goal of auditing is to ensure independent information to the customer, even if the customer is above or outside of management. The greater independence required of auditors is a result of the need to guarantee quality of audit results to outsiders.
