Project Management Software Maturity

Maturity Across the Organization

In a large organization, or even in a small one, it is inevitable that the level of project management process maturity will be uneven. In fact, there are many different dimensions involved. The PMO must assess maturity across all of them. Here are some examples:

Division and department. Which divisions and departments excel at project management? Which would benefit from improvement? For each, what improvements are most beneficial?

Project size. Some organizations excel at small projects, but run into difficulty with large ones. Others excel at large projects, but put excessive overhead into small projects.

Project type. A single company may do projects in multiple industrial areas, such as construction, IT development, and manufacturing.

Project phase. Some organizations may be strong in some phases, and weak in others.
