Project Management Maturity Models
19 November 2008Project Management Maturity Models
In the first few years of improving project management process capability, a PMO has a choice. It can either focus internally, or look outwards. Focusing internally means:
Identifying and solving problems with project management using project management software
Identifying and realizing opportunities for growth and cost savings through effective, efficient project management
Focusing externally means looking outside the company for solutions such as standards, methodologies, and best practices. Many organizations turn to the PMI or PRINCE2 from the OCG in this phase, as discussed on the Standards Learning page.
However, a PMO that wants to bring an entire organization to the next level of project management maturity finds it almost essential to turn to external standards.
