Project Management Life Cycle Best Practice
The realm of capability, best practices, and maturity is simply too large to allow for a home-grown approach. Tens of thousands of hours have been spent designing and improving the capability and maturity models, and few companies, if any, would benefit from ignoring that work and re-inventing the wheel. This is especially true because two of the best practice models for project management maturity are available for free:
OPM3, the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model from the PMI, for project management across all industries
CMMI, the Capability Maturity Model Integration from the SEI, for project management software development
